About the exhibition
Bold and free, funny, touching, disturbing – exhibits by 50 international artists show that eccentricity involves far more than outrageousness or decadence. Rejecting all forms of ideology, it is a social driver of freedom and tolerance. Around 100 works, including painting, sculpture, installation art, video, and design present a celebration of diversity beyond all rigid norms and cliches. They illustrate the perspective of the ‘ex centro’, the view from outside a fictitious centre.
The exhibition ECCENTRIC explores the multifaceted spectrum of identity and humanity. The artists experiment in a variety of different media, using the most diverse materials and techniques. They observe and process on their motifs and subjects from the most surprising perspectives. They distort, deform or liquefy figures and forms, combining them into hybrid or amorphous compositions.

Sections of the exhibition
The bold shift beyond the norm, the openness to other perspectives and the independence of the eccentric can be witnessed in the exhibition’s five different sections. The first room, entitled CREATURES, shows the diversity of individual beings whose ambivalent charisma appears fragile and vulnerable but who confidently assert themselves within their own sphere of influence. EXALTED COSMOS is about space and the aesthetic standards that eccentric artistic personalities create for themselves, whereas TRANSFORMATIVE TECHNOLOGY focuses on the creative use of technology and materials that transgress borders. HYBRID BEAUTY and FLUID BODIES render visible the extraordinary concept of beauty as well as the changeability and self-image of the physical.
Eccentric Design Lounge
Visitors are invited to reflect and relax in the ECCENTRIC DESIGN LOUNGE. Artist and stage designer Philipp Fürhofer has designed an installation made of semi-transparent curtains for this exhibition area. Peter Buchberger has selected Design Objects by Sebastian Bergne, Fernando & Umberto Campana, Leo de Carlo, Gillaume Delvigne, Lucca Ferreri, Felix Murhofer, and Pia Maria Raeder to match the theme.
