ONE ON ONE
Christoph Niemann ON "Where the Wild Lines Are", 2024
When Die Neue Sammlung commissioned Christoph Niemann to create a wall illustration for the children's book exhibition “Where the Wild Strokes Live”, the illustrator was inspired by the title of the exhibition and began to draw. The first illustration eventually became more than twenty motifs, which are spread across the walls and balustrades of the rotunda, bringing the books in the display cases to life in a unique way. From his work on the wall drawings, Niemann developed the book DRAW, which invites children and adults to get creative and draw for themselves. In this episode of ONE ON ONE, Christoph Niemann talks about his collaboration with graphic designer Ariane Spanier and how monsters can make storytelling easier in surprising ways.
